Nursery Curriculum

It is our aim to offer a wide variety of experiences which allow children to learn through play. We plan and evaluate these experiences on a daily basis and use the Scottish Executive guidelines - A Curriculum for Excellence.
A Curriculum for Excellence establishes clear values, purposes and principles for education from 3 to 18 in Scotland. It sets out to enable children to develop their capacities as successful learners, confident individuals, responsible citizens and effective contributors.

We provide an atmosphere of caring where children feel happy, secure and relaxed which will encourage them to develop and progress at their own pace. We do this by providing suitable experiences and resources in which children can feel confident, account is taken of the children's needs, interests and previous experience.

Curriculum for Excellence promotes the need to view learning and teaching across curriculum subjects and areas as inter-connected and integrated. This is particularly important for young children, who will develop their understanding of, for example, science, language, communication, technology and mathematics from an everyday experience, such as water or sand play, supported by knowledgeable adults.
The challenge is to ensure that these experiences are enriching and stimulating and that adults working with children are able to understand, appreciate and assess children’s achievements and learning.
